Khaleda Zia is speaking in defense of the court

Dhaka: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is giving speech in defense of herself to the court in two cases of corruption.

Khaleda Zia arrives in the 5th Special Judge court of the Dr. Akhtaruzzaman of Dhaka, located at Alia Madrasa field at Bakshibazar in the capital on today. After 10 minutes, Khaleda Zia started her speech in support of her defense.

Khaleda Zia's lawyer Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan said that Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust case are pending in court.

Earlier on October 19, Khaleda Zia presented partial speech in the special court supporting the defense in two cases. The court fixed today for hearing again.

The former Prime Minister, who got bail from Special Court in Zia Charitable and Zia Orphanage Trust case after surrender and paing one lakh taka. After this Khaleda Zia started the speech supporting her defense. He presented the speech in the court more than tmore than two hours. Today she is giving the rest of the speech.

Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia went to London on July 15 for treatment. There he was with her family members. Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman is already in London. At that time, an arrest warrant was issued against Khaleda in four cases. She got bail in two cases.

Besides, on October 9, the district and sessions judge of Comilla District Judge Jasmin Begum issued an arrest warrant against the BNP chairperson on petrol bomb attack case. On October 12, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nur Nabi issued a warrant for defamation case.

BNP thinks this warrant has been issued against Khaleda Zia for political reasons. Although the government said, the matter of the warrant issued by the court.

According to the report of the Zia Charitable Trust case, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against Tejgaon Police Station on Aug 8, 2010 against Khaleda Zia, four people, alleging that she had illegally registered Tk 3 crore 15 lakh 43 thousand in the name of Zia Charitable Trust.

On January 16, 2012, the investigation officer of the case, ACC Deputy Director Harun-ur-Rashid submitted charge sheets against the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and four others. Judge Basudeb Roy of Dhaka's third Special Judge's Court formed a charge against the accused on March 19, 2014.

The other accused in the case are Khaleda's former Political Secretary Harish Chowdhury (absconding), Assistant Personal Secretary of Harish and BIWTA's Northern Security and Traffic Division's former Acting Director Ziaul Islam Munna and former Mayor of Dhaka Sadek Hossain Khoka and Private Secretary Monirul Islam Khan.

Apart from the allegations of Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case, it is learned that the ACC filed a case with Ramna Police Station on July 3, 2008 against six people including Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman, accusing the Zia Orphanage Trust for misappropriation of 20 million 71 thousand 643 Taka .

ACC deputy director Harun Rashid submitted the chargesheet against Khaleda Zia and her son Tariq Rahman on August 5, 2010. On March 19, 2014, Judge Basudeb Roy of Dhaka's third Special Judge Court formed a charge against six people including Khaleda Zia.

Apart from Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman, the other accused are Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal, former MP of the Magura, Sharfuddin Ahmed, former secretary of the Prime Minister's Office Kamal Uddin Siddiqui and the former president Ziaur Rahman's nephew Mominur Rahman.
